NUMBERS AND CODES: PROPELLERS

The Octura, Prather and ABC ranges are identified with a system of code numbers.

ABC props information seems confusing but, when you know the secret, it is very informative. For example, ‘2716-10-50(2) CLL’ indicates a prop that has a diameter of 2.7in, a 1.6 pitch ratio, 10 degrees of rake angle, a blade area ratio of 50, and two blades (2). ‘CL’ shows that it is a cleaver type (‘CP’ would indicate chopper) and that it has a left rotation (L), as opposed to right, which would be ‘R’.

Octura props have a two-part code number that indicates the pitch – for example, X4, X6 or 1.7 (which also gives a guide to intended application) – and gives the diameter in millimetres.

Prather props have a three-number code – for example,

215 40.6mm (1.60in) 2.5”

220 43.7mm (1.72in) 2.6”

225 46.7mm (1.84in) 2.8”
